The birth of Ava DuVernay was on the 24th day of August 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was encouraged to pursue her love of art by her aunt Denise at the age of a small kid. Her aunt worked the night shifts as a nursing assistant so she could indulge her passion for art literature and theater throughout the day. DuVernay enjoyed the movie West Side Story, which she showed her. DuVernay discovered by watching her mother's model of the power of art as an instrument for activism. DuVernay's summers spent in Alabama's Selma would be the inspiration for her later an animated film on Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in 1990. She went to the University of California Los Angeles to obtain degrees in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay discovered a passion for the field of broadcast journalism while a student. DuVernay began her career working as an intern at CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was able to recall being assigned an assignment to watch the home and looking through the garbage belonging to one of the jury. Her tasks left her disappointed with journalism so she made the decision to go into the publicity industry. DuVernay began her career as a junior public relations assistant at a small film studio, right after graduating from the college. She was promoted to the position and set up her own PR company named The DuVernay Agency in 1999.
